Getting to know... Rose Louey

Rose is one of those rare people who seems to carry stillness wherever she goes - and yet, spend five minutes with her and you'll quickly discover she's also wickedly funny, deeply curious, and has lived several full lives already.

Melbourne-born with Chinese-Southeast Asian and Danish heritage, Rose spent most of her formative years in England, and it shows: in her wit, her references, and her particular brand of warmth. She came to yoga not as a career pivot but as a quiet homecoming - a space to slow down amid a life that has included fifteen years modelling and making art, raising children, and accumulating an encyclopaedic love of cinema and music.

You'll find her teaching her much-loved Mellow Stretch class at Trinity, and occasionally holding the fort at front of house. Either way, she brings the same quality: a kind of unhurried attention that makes you feel genuinely seen.

Here's a little more about Rose, in her own words.

Are you from Melbourne? If not, where and what brought you here?

I was born in Melbourne, but my blood heritage is Chinese (Southeast) and Danish. I grew up in England for most of my life, so my connection to all things cultural and comedic is rooted in English culture.

What inspired you to become a yoga/Pilates/breathwork/meditation teacher/to work at TCW?

Wellness spaces seem to be overwhelming these days. I was so drawn to Trinity for its nuanced and delicate palette of offerings. The space and offerings feel all-inclusive and suitable for everybody. There is no embedded bias in fitness levels or allegiance with wellbeing prior to being there. It feels genuinely welcoming and like a beautiful palace!

What's your guilty pleasure TV show or movie?

I am very indulgent with cinema- I love the more female-centric and ephemeral choices. I love sitting alone in a cinema and going in with a bag of carob bananas and coconut water!

If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?

  • Zadie Smith (Living/Writer)

  • Patti Smith (Living/Poet, Musician)

  • David Attenborough (Living/Naturalist)

What's a fun fact about you that most people don't know?

I am a fashion model and artist- spent the last 15 years in both of these industries. I love the aspects of collaboration, creative expression, shared vision, and socialising that come with this work. It doesn't define my personhood so much, but it gives me some personal joy outside of my time being a mother and teaching Yoga. The job feels aligned with my more extroverted qualities, where Yoga is my safe, gentle space to connect.

What's a song or album you'll never get tired of?

Listening to an album from start to finish is so old school and brilliant! I will always love a mini road trip and singing aloud with Little Simz's album 'Grey Area'. She is so wild and real.
