Getting to Know... Simone Reinwald

Yoga Teacher | Immunologist | Tennis Ball Evangelist

Simone might be one of the most quietly surprising people on the Trinity team. By day, she's in a lab coat, pipette in hand, working to understand the human immune system — and you might just catch her in a yoga pose beside the centrifuge. By evening, she's guiding students through Candlelit Yin classes o Wednesdays at Trinity, bringing the same spirit of curiosity to the mat that she brings to the lab.

She came to Australia from Germany on a two-year research contract. Sixteen years later, Melbourne is unambiguously home. Her path to yoga teaching followed a similar logic: she arrived sceptical, felt something shift by the end of her very first class, and never quite looked back. That sense of ease and quiet reconnection she discovered on the mat is exactly what she works to create for others - a space to slow down, come home to themselves, and leave feeling genuinely nourished.

Here's a little more about Simone, in her own words.

What inspired you to become a yoga teacher?

A friend took me to my first class and I went in sceptical. By the end of it I felt a sense of ease and contentment I hadn't experienced in a long time. I was hooked - I wanted to understand the wisdom behind it and, eventually, share it. Today, my greatest joy is creating a space where people can slow down, reconnect, and leave feeling grounded and nourished.

Are you from Melbourne?

I'm originally from Germany and came to Australia on a two-year research contract. Sixteen years later, I'm still here - and very happily calling Melbourne home.

One wellness habit you can't live without?

Alongside yoga, I'm completely devoted to myofascial release - rolling to release tension from the body. It feels incredible, and I take tennis balls on every single trip. Non-negotiable.

What's a song or album you'll never get tired of?

OK Computer by Radiohead. It takes me straight back to student life - in the best possible way.

What's a fun fact most people don't know about you?

I'm a full-time science nerd. Most of my days are spent in a lab coat with a pipette, working to understand the immune system. You'll often find me in a yoga pose beside the centrifuge. The two worlds coexist very peacefully.

Go-to comfort food?

Right now, in this cold weather - a bowl of pho warms me up.
